Exstat in mss. collect.
It is extant in the manuscripts of the Spanish and Isidorian collections, of collections 11, 12, 18, and 21 to 24, and also in Sichard's copy.

Hispanica hunc titulum praefert: Item Leonis ad Marcianum Augustum, ubi scribit de exsilio Eutychetis, ut ad secretiora loca eum transferret, quia ubi positus erat, adhuc prava docebat.
The Spanish collection carries this title: Likewise [a letter] of Leo to Marcian Augustus, where he writes about the exile of Eutyches, that he should move him to more secluded places, because where he had been placed he was still teaching perverse things.

So all the editions, with the manuscripts of collections 12, 18 and 24, with which the Vienna manuscript of the Spanish collection agrees, in which is read erroneously nihil scandalum. This error was corrected at will in the Vatican Spanish and Isidorian manuscripts, and in others derived from them, nullum scandalum.

So, with Merlin, Sichard and Quesnel, the Vatican manuscript of collection 24, whereas in the Vienna Spanish manuscript habet is missing; in the Vatican Spanish, the Isidorian and the others habebit was supplied, as is also read in the common editions before Quesnel.

On the authority of most of our manuscripts we have deleted corde, a word which the editions from Merlin, with Sichard and the manuscripts of collection 24, place before the verb perficiat.

Monuit Quesnellus in suis mss. legi, liberiore conscientia, quia (quod saepe dicendum est) male pullulantia fraterna charitate oportet resecari, gloriosissime imperator. Idipsum etiam exhibent nostri codd. Vat.
Quesnel noted that in his manuscripts one reads liberiore conscientia, quia (quod saepe dicendum est) male pullulantia fraterna charitate oportet resecari, gloriosissime imperator. Our Vatican Spanish and Isidorian manuscripts, with the manuscripts of collections 11 and 21, also show the same. We have nevertheless preferred the reading of the editions from Merlin, which we found in the Vienna Spanish manuscript, the Vatican manuscript of collection 24, and Sichard. We have only restored mallem for malim, which was read in Quesnel alone. Those words of Leo, "as must often be said", seem to refer to what he had written about Anatolius in his earlier letter 78 to Marcian, as also in the text of this letter, c. 5: Whom I wish rather to love acting irreproachably than [to see him] persist in this presumption...
SYNOPSIS. — I. Laudato Marciano, promittit Anatolio gratiam suam, si resipiscat. — II.
SYNOPSIS. — I. Having praised Marcian, he promises Anatolius his favour if he comes to his senses. — II. He asks him to banish Eutyches, who is spreading his poison in exile, to more secluded places. — III. He gives thanks for the inquiry into the paschal day, and prays him to favour the Catholics.

The Vatican Spanish and Isidorian manuscripts and those of collections 11 and 21, significatum mihi fratris quem excepistis piissime, Juliani sermone cognoscite. We have kept the reading introduced by Quesnel, since it is confirmed by our Vienna Spanish manuscript and that of collection 24 and by the copies of Merlin and Sichard. Only in our manuscripts and in Sichard is the word esse missing. The common editions before Quesnel give both readings together.

So Merlin, Sichard and Quesnel, with the Vienna Spanish manuscript and the Vatican manuscript of collection 24. The older editions, ad longinquiora loca. Quesnel notes that most of his manuscripts have ad tutiora, which we have found in the Vatican Spanish manuscript and in the manuscripts of collections 11 and 21; and the Vatican Isidorian manuscript alone gives ad tutiora loca eum.

Mox in Vindebon. Hisp., mittere, et de errore movendo. Hos errores correxit antiquus librarius, prout legitur in Vat. Retinuimus tamen lectionem a Quesnello inductam ex cod.
The common editions before Quesnel, with one manuscript of collection 21, add Nectarium, which the other manuscripts do not know, and Quesnel rightly struck it out. For Nectarius, an agens in rebus, had been sent to Rome with the letters of Marcian and Anatolius, as will become plain from the title of the following letter. Shortly after, in the Vienna Spanish manuscript, mittere, and de errore movendo. An old copyist corrected these errors, as is read in the Vatican Spanish and Isidorian manuscripts and in other manuscripts of the same origin, with the older editions, mitteret for mitteretis and de errore movendo. Also in Sichard and in the manuscripts of collection 24, which do not derive from the Spanish Gallican collection, one reads removendo. We have nevertheless kept the reading introduced by Quesnel from the Grimani manuscript, admonendo, because what follows indicates not an outright correction of the error but a warning given about the error that seemed to be in the Table of Theophilus, so that Leo asks to be informed of whatever the Alexandrians will answer on this matter.

Quesnel, from the Grimani manuscript, confessione, and in the margin he attached the mark male to the common reading consensione, which we have restored from our manuscripts and from Hincmar; though it is the better and truer reading; for it signifies that Anatolius consented to the counsels of the clergy, of which Leo said a little before: What could not have been attempted without your will.
