This at least was reported at Rome at this time. But Liberatus, in the Breviarium, chapter 12, records that no one was substituted for Eusebius of Dorylaeum, as Quesnel observed in a marginal note.

The legates are meant who were believed to be about to be sent with this letter; but they were sent only in the month of June, as we explained in note 7 (col. 909, n. d) on the preceding letter. 4 (Col. 919, n. e) in epist. 83.
This distinction between Anatolius's letter and the report of the legates may seem to indicate that the legates reported what is mentioned in this letter not by letters but by word of mouth, as though they had already arrived in Rome. But Leo used the word report in the preceding letter, chapter 2, when he was speaking of Anatolius, who certainly reported by letter; and besides, it will be clear from note 4 (col. 919, n. e) on Letter 83 that those legates entered the City later.

The printed editions, with both Hispana manuscripts and other later collections, insert non [not]. But we have deleted it on the authority of the better and older collections, namely the Vatican manuscript of collection 3, two of collection 8, and the excellent Ratisbon manuscript of collection 19, with which the exemplars of the first edition and of Sichard agree. Indeed Anatolius seems to have been in doubt on this matter, although the legates, while they were in Constantinople, had declared that Dioscorus, Juvenal and Eustathius were not to be recited from the diptychs, because they were held to be the heads of the Ephesine impiety. The reason which St Leo adds approves the legates' opinion. Hence, from the manuscripts Vatican 5845 of collection 8, the Ratisbon and the manuscripts of collection 24, and also from the first edition and Sichard, we have preferred dixerunt [they said] to the common dixerint [they may have said].

7 (Col. 909, n. d) in epist. 78.
The word Paschae [of Easter], which is lacking in our manuscripts and editions, inserted by Quesnel from the Grimani manuscript, we have retained, because likewise in the preceding letter, chapter I, the Constantinopolitan clerics are said to have been sent back, or rather to be sent back, to Anatolius after the venerable day of the paschal feast, and with them St Leo had already determined to send his own legates as well, as we pointed out in note 7 (col. 909, n. d) on Letter 78. The same Quesnel added this note in the margin: The Grimani adds Paschae, perhaps understanding this of the octave of Easter, which had been 8 April. He thought this because he believed that this letter was written on the very Ides of April on which it is dated. But it is more probable that all these letters dated on the Ides of April were written before Easter, when Leo was thinking of joining legates to the returning Constantinopolitan clerics, and that they were dated on the day on which, having changed his plan, he put off the legation and dismissed the Constantinopolitan clerics alone. For in this way the things that cause difficulty in letters of this kind are reconciled. Hence there is no need in this place to understand the octave of Easter instead of the day of Easter itself.
